time for a reboot. please ignore the broken soundcloud links.
Cant ever give up this track. I know nothing about Holy Other besides that they are from Berlin.

I just read that Angolan singer/songwriter Santocas is to release his first CD &DVD documenting his artistic ventures from 1975 to the 1990s, entitled “Minha História, Minha Vida” in the next few months. I am excited for this release because it is his first, and it will be interesting to see this perspective of the stormy political atmosphere of Angola. The very limited number of his recordings I possess are so beautiful that I had to pry for more- this track is particularly flawless, Vaoldia:
I made this “back to school” mix for my roommate and figured I’d share the love. Listen below, or download here.

Really been feeling LA’s Shlohmo since his podcast for XLR8R back in December. This kid is no doubt doin work… He’s got an arsenal of gems here as well as in his contributions to Wedidit collective, of which he is a co-founder. If you’re a Flying Lotus fan like me, Shlohmo’s shit is probably for you, too. This track is twinkly, richly textured, and everything I need it to be.
Also, don’t miss out on the second mix for Streets of Beige by S. MAHARBA, which features Ghosts pt.2! Dude’s weaving straw into gold this very second I’m sure, evidenced by this here sample of none other than Ray Davis’ I Go to Sleep-performed by the German sweetheart Marion (of course the Pretenders killed it, too..). Love it.
…the last gasp of summer is abound- this song, Washed Out‘s Hold Out is well-suited. The video below is compiled from their spring ’10 tour and directed by John Lipari.
Perfect. Shangri-Las- Remember (Walking In The Sand) was plucked from the Nick Nicely mixtape for Naturalismo.

Ummmmm….. how did I miss this??? Well just in case you did too, check out Girl Unit‘s 2010 mix. (download link available on his myspace). While you’re at it, get on that FACT mix too- Undeniably bangin’.
…when I got Owen Pallett‘s Lewis Takes Off His Shirt ep I about lost me mind. His orchestral-pop arrangements are incredible and his voice trumpets like Arthur Russell-gone-bubblegum. The ep is a free download on Domino and includes the album version plus some amazing remixes by the likes of Dan Deacon and Benoît Pioulard…my favorite at the moment is this CFCF remix:
(Add a pan flute to just about anything and I’m in for the long haul) Definitely anticipating his show at the 9:30 Club- September 7th with The Dirty Projectors.
Introduced to me by a buddy earlier this week, Surfer Blood‘s latest album Astrocast (on Kanine) is a great highway companion. This song, Harmonix, is one of the highlights.
Kendrick Lamar…introduced to me by one of the Luscious Judy team. The flow is reminiscent of Drake at times… but with an actual edge. The first of his I heard kept me coming back for more—Cut You Off.
This track from Chicago’s Angel Olsen has captivated me for several weeks. I love this folk-y confession from a female voice that isn’t infantile or saccharine-…she has a severity that’s devastatingly beautiful. I wish that I had written this song myself. This track is off her latest release Strange Cacti on Bathetic records.
Wanted to bring up this Grizzly Bear video because it’s just as magic as the song is.
…this a capella audio/video gold covers another of my dearest Grizzly Bear tracks
These are the best songs I have experienced in a really long time. Every Woodsman track I hear is my new favorite. When are we going to Denver?
YO! Baltimore’s Lands & Peoples—amazing!! Listen to this track loud.
Loving Sanfran’s Weekend too
This one goes out to mi buddy joey very fa fa away in BURR!lin- without him or his accomplice Zach (of Zulu Pearls) we would not be having no Honeyland. Photo nicked from yondc ’cause I wish I was there ! Damn
I actually saw a double rainbow last week when exiting Kroger after an intense storm. That’s the second time in my life to see the double-arch over the Fan, which I’m not sure is impressive as a statistic or not but who cares it’s totally extraordinary unless yr ass is in Hawaii (do I have the wrong idea about “Hawaii”?) Also, a few years ago, the first time I saw them double ‘bows, was also the night that we looked out and the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile was parked in front no joke- it’s a huge dawg on wheels that has a cockpit. Dude made a pitstop to eat at Sticky Rice…I wonder if Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives gave it a mention for their FAB sushi. Shit, nothing beats a cold and mediocre sweet potato roll and some tater tots. F00k me, is anyone still here? Check out this track from Protect U. I like to play it when I’m trying to get shit done.
How many times did I embarrass myself at a Videohippos show? This track, as Bmore Musically Informed appropriately describes, is a summer-soaked jam. This is off of their new release and features DJ Dog Dick, whom has watched a friend drink his piss at least once in his life. I like the chirping birds sample…
….Is so good.
This is a fan video by Jacob Corbin for their new single You & I. Apparently the footage is from the 1986 film Head. Also included here is my no.1 summer jam from 2009 Feel it All Around. Collage by Mike of Run DMT- really funny dude. Love this piece.
Hailing from San Francisco, The Sandwitches are to release a onc-sided, six-song EP Duck Duck Goose! on July 13th, which includes this heartbreaking cover of oscar-nominated “Baby Mine”…this is so intense as a clip I can’t imagine how I watched Dumbo so many times as a child. Give it a view/listen….YOU ARE NOT HUMAN IF YOU DON’T CRY ON THE REAL
I’m waiting for my friends to buy a house on 86th street so I can live there all summer and crisp til I crumble and blow away. Today was the perfect day at the beach.
Since my beloved Microcastle was played on the way there this morning I shall include a Deerhunter track in this post for authenticity’s sake. Actually, it’s not just a track, it’s the most bewitching of any. I’m also including two additional loves: Harlem and Dum Dum Girls to bring in a taste of those west coast waves. Missin’ my brother in that Pacific timezone!
I love this video forever

There is a book about black holes on the back of our toilet right now. All I can really try to wrap my mind around is the magnitude of that kind of non-matter. Honestly I don’t even get it. I think the true black hole scenario at hand here is the human condition. When was the last time you felt as though people brought more to the table besides a series of disappointments? A sucking of the life out of everything they touch? I believe “you get what you give” is appropriate to a species not of our own..but something that has never disappointed me to this day – the xx. Perfect sultry summer jams. Jamie xx kills them beatz. Kill me this is garbage. NAWW for real I swear I’m not on suicide watch or anything. Just speculatin’ is all.
I was going to write something on topic but as I rummaged through the papers on my desk to try to find a photo to scan I found an unsent letter. I love how they become just scattered junk guerilla diary entries for me to enjoy later. Also, Beach House will always be my shit I don’t care if new weird america hits TRL status at this point. Really though, what constitutes TRL status now that it doesn’t exist anymore?
There was a night when mushrooms and this song came together in my living room. I will never forget it. I hope the others imagined a scene close to this, although a neon tiger (“play the tiger song”) seems to be the presiding image in my mind. Genius saxophone and wavering vocals. “You were so pure not for this world.”
This is one of my favorite Neil Young songs. His voice somehow manages to make this song seem as though it’s coming from an unaffected person, though one knows better and I like that Thom takes it to another level in terms of darkness. Maybe it’s just the guitar that gives a tranquil energy to a deeply sad song.
Asobi Seksu was one of the last groups I saw at Norfolk’s Relative Theory Records (RIP) before I left for college. Their sound has mellowed out a lot since then but I still keep my ear out for their new releases. This is off of an acoustic album they put out not terribly long ago. The Japanese lyrics I obviously cannot translate but I imagine childhood friends finding themselves estranged in their adult lives. Her voice is magical.
I saw Lewis & Clarke in Philadelphia a few years ago and bought this live recording on vinyl. They were phenomenal; at that point in time it was just frontman Lou and a woman on cello. This recording is beautiful- to me a folk nocturne. Get into this poetry now.
I shouldn’t fail to mention that this particular night was the first date on Bat For Lashes’ first American tour- to be fair BFL was headlining and they were so imaginative and musically gifted, although I find their videos to be rather hokey. Here’s a sweet little track by the lovely Natasha Khan.
